Which degrees will give you the best chances of landing a job after you graduate? Some students select a major because it teaches them practical skills that are valuable in the workplace. Other students choose their major because they love the subject. Earning an advanced degree isn't as hard as it may seem, and by combining work-study or internships with your class schedule, you can defray the additional tuition costs. The most popular college major is business, split equally between men and women. On the other hand, men make up the majority of computer science and engineering majors. For women, education, English and liberal arts dominate the list.

By registering a domain name, and signing up for cheap hosting, you can make a website in a few hours using a WordPress template. Similar to magazine page layout, website design success is governed by two main factors, visitor traffic and online sales conversions.

Online Courses - MOOCs

Western Nevada College job fair 2014There are over 6,500 accredited colleges and universities in the United States, which collectively enroll over 15 million students, granting two million bachelors degrees a year. US College Rankings:

The US News college rankings take into account opinion surveys of university faculty, and college administrators. Another guide, best known for their 'Forbes 400' list of the richest people in America, the Forbes rankings have been getting a lot of attention for their list of 'America's Best Colleges.' New college rankings aim to reflect a greater emphasis on student satisfaction, as well as recognizing academic achievement. For critics of the U.S. News & World Report college rankings, the new Forbes College Ratings seem to be more balanced, and include high rankings for many smaller colleges. Peterson's Guide is a comprehensive guide to US colleges, designed for students trying to choose between competing colleges and universities.

Although the cost of tuition has risen for most 4-year colleges and universities, community colleges and trade schools remain an affordable option for those looking to earn an associates degree. The average community college student graduates with only a few thousand dollars in debt, compared to bachelors degree graduates. This means that associates degree recipients are likely to see a return on their investment sooner than those with a bachelors degree. If you're planning on transferring to a four-year program, an associates degree program can be a good idea. You can save money for the first two years of your education by studying at a local community college, but ultimately receive your bachelors degree from a four-year university.

Scholarship Search, Government Loans

The ScholarshipExperts.com website is a subscriber scholarship search service. The Gates Millennium Scholars program is a minority scholarship program targeted towards outstanding African-American, American-Indian, and Latino students. While federal student loans can be discharged for total and permanent disability, private student loans cannot be discharged outside of bankruptcy. Please note that financial aid application deadlines are strictly enforced by the financial aid office. The official FAFSA website is www.fafsa.ed.gov and is free. Student loans often carry an origination fee. Origination fees are a one-time charge based on the amount of the loan.

Federal Direct Student Loans, also known as Direct Loans, are funded by the US Treasury. Private student loans, however, are not guaranteed, and are offered directly to students by a commercial bank, employee credit union, or finance company. Student loans should be seen as 'the measure of last resort,' as this entails graduating with substantial debt. According to the US Department of Education, nearly 45 million Americans are still repaying student loans incurred during their college career. Student credit cards may seem like a good short-term solution, but the interest rates are high, and credit cards often carry an annual fee. If you do end up using credit cards to meet some expenses, pay off the outstanding balance in full every month. You can get a credit report online by submitting a student credit card application, whether you are approved or not.

Most CNA programs can be completed within a few months, allowing you to join the workforce quickly. The next step in a nursing career is to become a LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) or LVN ( Licensed Vocational Nurse). These are year-long programs, in which you'll work under an RN distributing meds, treating wounds, and providing basic patient care.

In order to become an RN (Registered Nurse), a bachelors degree in nursing is recommended. RN's command a greater salary, and are responsible for an enlarged scope of practice over LPNs and CNAs. Students will receive classroom instruction and clinical training in a hospital setting. A 4-year BSN program allows students to further specialize in the areas of pediatrics, geriatrics and mental health. After completing your nursing education, you must be licensed by the state in which you'll be practicing, given that state boards of nursing each have specific certification requirements.
